I came across this poem a few years ago...not sure who wrote it. I just love it because I often feel that people don't understand me. I have strong views, yes! I believe God's Word is literal and true. I do not, however, claim to be perfect...or judge others for not being so. It seems that many people misjudge me...thinking that I believe I'm above them. I'm not and I have never claimed to be. That's why I love this poem, its so true...
When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'.
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."
When I say … "I am a Christian,"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble,
And need CHRIST to be my guide.
When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak,
And need HIS strength to carry on.
When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed,
And need God to clean my mess.
When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are far too visible,
But God believes I am worth it*.
When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches,
So I call upon His name.
When I say ... "I am a Christian,"
I'm not holier than thou.
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace somehow.
*a bit of a disclaimer for this part...God is gracious to me, not because I am "worth it", but because He has chosen to be out of His abundant love for His people!
I like what you have to say here, and although I have strong views that are different in some areas, we DO agree on this much (what is in the poem - And the disclaimer). And that tells me that God is great, too!
